YACWAG's Treasured Trees is a website to update local residents of Yatton and Congresbury about the project to plant 60 trees in each parish - one for each year of her reign - in celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012. Find out where the trees were planted in our Gallery.
The project was supported by the Government's 'Big Tree Plant' initiative which planted a million trees in public places across the country. Other funding came from the sponsors listed on the right.
YACWAG worked in partnership with North Somerset Council to identify 60 suitable sites across Yatton Parish for the planting of trees. 60 trees were also planted in St Andrews School in Congresbury to form a new 'Jubilee Wood'.
As well as updating residents and supporters of YACWAG about these trees as they grow, visitors will find this website a source of interest and information about trees and the wildlife they support. On the 'Wildlife Supported by Trees' page you will find information about every type of tree planted in the scheme from the mighty English Oak to lesser known species such as the Amelanchier and the Dawn Redwood that dates back to the dinosaurs and was at one time thought to be extinct!
YACWAG is always keen to hear from you so please visit our Contacts page if you have any questions or wish to subscribe to this website. You can follow the link on the right-hand side of this page for more information about the work that YACWAG does and its own nature reserves.
